Burr-Feinstein Stopped: A Win for Privacy and Security

The Burr-Feinstein proposal would force tech companies to break their own encryption to make it easier so that law enforcement could more easily crack into our communications. EFF spoke out against this proposal alongside tech companies and thousands of members of the public. After strong public pressure, the draft bill has lost support in the White House and intelligence community.  "They've dropped anchor and taken down the sail," former NSA and CIA director Michael Hayden said.

The push for Burr-Feinstein is likely over for now, but the debate on crypto backdoors is not. EFF will continue to lead the fight against any legislation that undermines encryption.
