EFF Update
Public Interest Technology
Hi ,
People used to think an encrypted web was impossible. But thanks to EFF’s Peter Eckersley, it was an engineering riddle. He knew widespread encrypted traffic would offer a foundation of security for everybody. But it would also be a powerful weapon against mass surveillance by governments.
Fast forward through about 15 years of EFF defying an industry:
- Let’s Encrypt has issued billions of free HTTPS certs.
- Almost all web traffic is encrypted.
- Some young devs have no idea that deploying HTTPS was once expensive and hard.
You helped make this happen as a Certbot user—will you help us keep it up?
We chose security over money and succeeded. EFF’s mission is to ensure that technology supports freedom, justice, and innovation for all people. And as an EFF supporter, you can guarantee free tools like Certbot thrive for the public good (along with Privacy Badger, Cover Your Tracks/Panopticlick, Surveillance Self-Defense, and much more!).
Please consider a donation of any size to keep public interest technology projects going strong. You can even start a simple automatic donation for as little as $5 a month. Help defend the right to privacy, security, and free expression for everyone.
