In preparation for an in-person protest at the ICANN office on Friday the 24th, Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Special Advisor, speaker, and author Cory Doctorow will be at CRASH Space this Saturday to talk more about why .ORG matters, and why the sale of the .ORG registry to Ethos Capital must be stopped. Cory's talk will be followed by a sign-design party with art materials and inspirational designs to make signs and banners for the protest.
Last month it was suddenly announced that the nonprofit that owns the .ORG domain registry was planning to sell it to a private equity firm, Ethos Capital. This could impact millions of individuals and organizations who have a .ORG website, particularly nonprofits and NGOs, subjecting them to potential censorship and leaving the door open for price increases on domain registration and renewals. But we can stop the sale and make sure .ORGs are protected!
